Catering

At Greater Peterborough UTC, we want students to have access to a good choice of food and drink throughout their school day.

Our catering provision is delivered in partnership with Caterlink, who have been providing our catering service since 1 August 2024. Our catering team offer a varied menu, giving students a selection of hot meals, lighter options, snacks and refreshments.

Water and Packed Lunches

Fresh water dispensers are available throughout the UTC building and students are encouraged to bring a sealable, reusable water bottle, which can be refilled during the day.

Students are also very welcome to bring a packed lunch from home if they prefer.

Our Cashless Canteen

GPUTC operates a cashless canteen system, making purchasing food and refreshments quick and straightforward for students.

As part of enrolment at GPUTC, students will have two fingertips scanned to create a digital signature. This enables them to make future purchases in the canteen using fingerprint recognition, without needing to carry cash.

How does the fingerprint system work?

The Vericool scanner lights the fingertip and captures data from the fingerprint. Unlike a normal photograph, the system does not store a complete fingerprint image.

Instead, most of the information is discarded and approximately 120 random points are retained. These points are converted mathematically into a unique string of numbers, creating the digital signature used by the system.

Because the complete fingerprint image is not stored, it cannot be recreated from the information held within the system.

The individual digital signatures are used solely by Greater Peterborough UTC for the operation of our cashless catering system and are retained on our database only while the student remains on roll at GPUTC.
