Date Published

Greater Peterborough UTC (GPUTC) has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to education after winning the Education Award at the Peterborough Spark Awards ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel on Thursday 22 October.

Representatives from the UTC attended the celebration event, hosted by Peterborough City Council, where organisations and individuals from across the city were recognised for the positive impact they make within their communities.

The award acknowledges Greater Peterborough UTC's innovative approach to education, which combines academic learning with extensive employer engagement, industry experience and personalised careers education. The UTC was selected in recognition of its commitment to preparing young people for successful futures through meaningful connections between education and employment.

A defining feature of the UTC's approach is its strong network of local, regional and national employer partners. Students benefit from employer-led projects, workplace visits, industry placements, careers guidance and mentoring opportunities that enable them to develop technical skills, professional behaviours and a deeper understanding of career pathways.

The impact of this employer-led model is reflected in the progression destinations achieved by students. Last years Year 13 cohort, 29% progressed directly into apprenticeships, while 22% of the T Level students secured employment or apprenticeship opportunities with their industry placement providers. These outcomes demonstrate how high-quality technical education, combined with authentic workplace experiences, can support young people in achieving positive and sustainable destinations.

The award recognised the UTC's wider commitment to developing confident, informed and career-ready young people. Student voice plays a central role in shaping the school's careers provision, enrichment activities and employer engagement opportunities, ensuring programmes remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of its learners.

Speaking about the achievement, the UTC expressed its pride in receiving the award and emphasised that the recognition reflects the collective efforts of students, staff, governors, employer partners and the wider school community.

This latest accolade reinforces Greater Peterborough UTC's reputation for delivering education that is closely aligned with industry needs, helping students develop the skills, confidence and professional networks required to succeed in apprenticeships, higher education and employment.

Winning the Peterborough Spark Education Award is a significant achievement and a testament to the UTC's continued commitment to transforming futures through employer-led education, innovation and opportunity.
