Personal Social Health Education
Some parts of SRE are compulsory – these are part of the National Curriculum for Science such as reproduction and reproductive system, the menstrual cycle, fertilisation and birth including maternal lifestyle influences on the foetus.
We believe that it is important that all young people have a place to discuss prevalent issues, check facts and dispel myths as second-hand information and fake news can be dangerous and misleading. PSHE education aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.
We will be teaching PSHE lessons in an appropriate manner based on student’s maturity levels; using the correct terminology to support their understanding.
Supporting Parents/Carers
You may find that your child starts asking questions about the topic at home, or you might want to take the opportunity to talk to your child about issues before the work is covered in school. Students are encouraged to ask questions which will be answered factually and in an age-appropriate manner.
Each pupil’s privacy will be respected, and students are never asked to reveal personal information. Students are signposted to relevant support agencies in school and through external support channels if necessary, and safeguarding is advocated in all lessons. If you have any queries about the content of the programme or resources used, please do not hesitate in contacting the school.
The NSPCC have resources to advise and support parents and carers to start potentially sensitive or difficult discussions with children and young people. NSPCC Support for Parents
